String it Together

We had our second girls night/ craft night/ finally do a pinned project night/ wine night/ gossip night, not that I could make it to the first one (sorry, sorry, sorry). It was my turn to host, therefore I got to pick the project.  I had seen some fairly intricate string art designs that caught my attention and stuck with me, like these ones:

From here
We didn't actually end up doing any of those, but I think I will try a couple more in the near future. This little craft was super easy, once you got the outline finished. We chose relatively simple designs, but that didn't stop our shoulders from getting sore. Apparently we are just super weak... however, hammering a bunch of nails for the evening also turned out to be very therapeutic!

This would also be really cool and simple to do with kids, and would make a cute little keepsake for them.
Also, after I had paid for the wooden pieces at Michaels (and yes, I am very aware if I had any handyman skills whatsoever I could have just got them from the great outdoors) the cashier called out to me "enjoy your wood!" Obviously I burst out laughing because of my vast immaturity and thanked her very much.
(Who says that?)
She didn't laugh.
Oh well.

The finished products!
Happy hammering!

Stop Dressing Like a 16 Year Old

It has come to my attention that I dress exactly same way that I did thoughout high school... and while we are being honest- junior high too.  Just in case you did not personally witness it, those outfits consisted of clothes handed down to my from my brother and hair spiked with gel.  Yeah.  I have yet to find the perfect jeans that fit tightly around my waist (without showing the lovies), but not so tight or too loose around the calves.  I mean really, it is quite the hassel.  All of my dresses are from my 18 year old bar star days (ahem... possibly 16), all from Forever 21, and all of which have broken zippers.  I don't even own nice pajamas; I wear a shirt that is usually an old soccer t-shirt of my dad or brothers' that somehow ended up in my clothing pile after laundry day.  Most days I can be found in lululemon pants, a t-shirt from Victoria's Secret PINK collection (which is really not helping my case here), and a hoodie that may or may not have been Zigg's at some point.  I may not have the post secondary education that most of my fellow high school grads have obtained, nor do I work in a place that requires me to even shower before beginning a shift, nor am I married or bearing child, but damn it- I am going to LOOK my age.

Ah, just one slight hiccup.  Unless it is pay day, I am broke as a joke on coke.  Well no, I am not that poor, I just have a strict biweekly budget that does not take into consideration 'insanely massive trip to the mall to buy things I already own but nicer'.  Shame.

Anyways, I was just looking at one of my favourite blog's more recent posts, where she showed us how to take 8 pieces of clothing and create 8 different outfits out of them.  Then I thought about how often I do that... which articles of clothing I could even do that with... How do you even think of such concoctions... and then I realized I suck.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I don't have any clothes.  I have a closet overflowing with them.  Two if you must know.  And a dresser.  Regardless, the other day I actually put on a shirt that I've had for a while now, when it struck me that I had bought it when I was 15 years old.  Then, it hit me, THAT WAS 9 YEARS AGO and paired with spikey hair.  How embarrasing.  So yes, techincally I have enough clothing to dress an entire classroom of people from head to toe, but it's a classroom of 8th graders.

Here I go, I suppose continuing on with my 'Me Makeover', I've tried to narrow a new wardrobe down to just essentials.  Saving me time on shopping, but more importantly on money.

A Dress that can be worn during the day or dolled up for evening.
Tights or Leggings to wear under a dress or with a long top.
With summer coming we wil need Shorts but NOT the ones so short that they end where the thickest part of the thigh begins! (Hello pet peeve)
A lovely, light Blouse to sport with a variety of bottoms.
An A-line, high-waisted Skirt that can be worn out to lunch with friends or snazzied to an interview.
At least one Jacket or Blazer to finish off any look.
An interesting Tunic.
Trousers - I know, I didn't see that one coming either.
Finally, the perfect, plain, white T-Shirt.

Et voila! A wardrobe you can mix and match! Sort of... if you got corresponding colours :)
I've made my point.
Now its time so save my loonies and toonies until I can afford it all!

We Styled Our Soles

Ahhhhh SHOES!!
Well after party like this one, it has to be said: what a pain in the ass party planning is!  As if party-poopers cancelling altogether, party-goers changing their orders, and me hassling people for money and craft supplies wasn't enough, then the post office was delayed in dropped off our shoes and the whole thing had to get rescheduled!  It was a lot of effort to get this ship sailing, but in the end it was definitely worth it.

Everything we need
An amazing girl, who unfortunately could not make it at the last minute, provided us with basically all of the supplies we needed for the day!  Our shoes would never have turned out so lovely if it had not been for her.  Fortunately for us, she has also posted pictures of the shoes she ended up making with her friends the very next day, and is showcasing them on her blog.  Check them out!

A little bit of delicious
My awesome neighbour provided us with delicious snacks, all from Epicure.  Gorging down 3 Cheese dip, Artichoke dip, and sinking our veggies in Lemon-Dill was enough to satisfy any cravings we had.  After just a few tastes some personal orders quickly rolled in for more.  So far, my favourite is the citrus berry cheesecake.
(If you’re interested in hosting an Epicure party or picking up some delicious products for yourself, send Crista an email at cmepicure@gmail.com and definitely check out her page!)
Our snacks complimented our Mimosa bar perfectly!

Mimosas!

Finally, we got down to business.  Unsure if permanent markers or acrylic paint would look better (and which would have less chance of making a mistake with) half of us used markers while the other half used paint.  Both look awesome!  Here are some pictures of the creative shoes seen.  (Shoes are very tricky to capture in just one shot!)

Not all those who wander are lost.

I'm nice... doesn't mean
... you can walk all over me.

This is impossible...

...Only if you believe it is.
We even finished the night off with a visit from our very own Tiny Tom.  ;)

Style Your Sole Party

Apparently I was last to get the memo that TOMS shoes are the greatest things ever.  Since Christmas, I am now the proud owner of 3 pairs.  Not only are they shockingly comfortable, but affordable and every time you buy a pair for yourself- a pair of shoes is donated to somone in need.
One for one.

I have been thinking of hosting a Style Your Sole party.  You may be wondering what exactly that means.   A Style Your Sole party has people coming together, expressing themselves, and helping children in need by customizing their own TOMS.  Whether you are styling for a child, among friends, or as a group within the community, the day is all about creativity.

You are only limitied by your own imagination.

Before I choose a date in which to host a Style Your Sole party, I need to know how many of you are interested.  If so, and I hope you are, please leave a comment underneath this post!  Once there are around ten of us, I will collect your moola and shoe size and order our blank canvas shoes.
Women
Feel free to invite and pass this on to family, friends, neighbours, coworkers, classmates, and aquaintances.  Even bring children to decorate their own!  Afterall, if we gather 25 people or more then we receive 10% off our entire order.  TOMS plain canvas shoes are available for men, women, and children.

Men

People have worn these under their wedding dress and gifted to groomsmen, as their comfortable walking shoe while travelling, to work or class, on a lunch date, and they have even been spotted on the red carpet.

They look good with pants, shorts, leggings, jeggings, skirts, and dresses!

If/ once we have enough people, I will let you know when our Style Your Sole party will be.  TOMS recommends getting the plain white canvas shoes because a.) they are easiest to paint and b.) are almost always in stock in every size.  This particular shoe for an adult size will cost $44 and for youth $38.

Don't just think outside the box, tear it up.

You know if celebrities are wearing them, they must be cool!
